Gid Disease in Goat:
Parasite : Tenia multiceps
Cyst: Cenurus cerebrelis
Location : Brain
Host: Goat,Sheep mainly.
Symptoms:
1.Head pressing against the wall.
2. Jerking of the head.
3.Downward one side of the head.
4. May be affected both side.
5.Dullness, No movement, drowsiness.
6.Softening of skull due to the pressure of cyst.
Diagnosis:
1. History taking.
2. Clinical signs and symptoms.
3. Pulpation of the skull (softening)
4. Swelling the affected region.
Treatment:
1.Surgical treatment and removing of the cyst.
Surgical Procedures:
1.Preparation for the surgeon.
2.Controlling the animal.
3.Antiseptic washing.
4.Cleaning and shaving of the affected region.
5.Analgesia ( Ring block)
6. Cross incission.
7.Opening the area.
8.Trephine/ Removing of the soft part of the bone.
9.Probing that area.
10. Coming out of the intact cyst with scolices.
11.Suturing
Post operative care:
1. Protecting.
2. Fly repelents
3.Antibiotics ( Broad spectrum) which have BBB passing capacity such as Gentamycin, Chloramphenicol,Neomycin,Canamycin,Tetracyclines etc.
4.Painkiller ( Ketoprofen, Dexamethasone)
5.Dressing regularly.
Precautions :
1. Gently probing so that cerebrum remains unaffected.
2. Careful observation.
